Cleaning with Thieves
I started using the thieves cleaning line to clean our home over three years ago, and I still cannot believe how simple and affordable it is. Thieves household cleaner is a plant based concentrate that can be used to clean every single surface in your home- one bottle truly does it all.
Since Thieves is a cleaning concentrate, you can dilute it in many different ways to replace every conventional cleaning product under your kitchen sink from all-purpose cleaner to window and mirror cleaner to soft scrub to floor cleaner and so much more.
Thieves is gentle enough to use on marble and quartz, and a safer option to be using on your littles toys and highchair.
Can you tell we love this product?
its the best.
Why switch to natural cleaning?
Conventional cleaning products are filled with a lot of chemicals that can overtime wreck havoc over our bodies and the environment. It is important to understand that the exact risk of using chemical based cleaning products in our homes is unknown, but when you identify areas of risk within your day to day, you are able to reduce daily exposure to these chemicals for you and your family.
The United States Environmental Protection Agency talks through environmental and health concerns related to common household cleaning products, and considerations to reduce potential exposures. A few considerations outlined include: minimal presence or exposure to potentially harmful chemicals such as substances classified as carcinogens, limit use of disinfectants, lower exposures to volatile organic compounds (VOC’s), and go fragrance free. Read the full list here.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) updates and releases a list of known carcinogens, the most recent report includes 256 substances that are known or reasonably anticipated to cause cancer in humans. Unfortunately, there are known carcinogens that are present in commonly used conventional cleaning products. Read the full list of substances here. It is important to understand that we are never going to eliminate toxin exposure, i mean alcoholic beverage consumption is on this list, and I am not willing to give up our occasional consumption of beer, wine, or margaritas… but the ultimate goal is to reduce overall toxin exposure and subsequent toxic burden on our bodies.
Keep in mind that general cleaning of your home does not require disinfectants, so products like bleach are not necessary in day to day cleaning.
Many conventional cleaning products contain VOC’s that can affect indoor air quality and pollute the air in your home. Switching to a non toxic cleaning product will reduce VOC exposure within your home, and you will no longer feel the need to open a window when you are cleaning.
One of the easiest switches we have made is ditching synthetically fragranced products within our home for naturally scented products using essential oils instead. Fragrance is important to avoid because it is an umbrella term that includes a ton of different chemicals that a company is not required to disclose. You will physically feel a difference when you ditch fragrance; I am speaking from experience, and its wild how much fragrance affects you after you remove it from your day to day.
So overall, if you are looking for ways to decrease toxin exposure, one of the easiest switches is your home cleaning products.
We cannot control what happens outside of our home, but we certainly can choose what we bring into our homes.
Why young living and thieves?
You guys, I needed easy, and this was it. I honestly do not have time to go out and research every single product we bring into our home, and young living has so many different products that can truly touch every single area of our home.
I needed a one stop shop, and Young Living was it.
I was previously using Mrs. Meyers products because they looked like a better option at the store, but then I learned what greenwashing was and I felt bamboozled. Young Living has very high standards for their products, making it a company that I can trust as a whole without having to research every single product. Read more about Young Living here.
Where to buy thieves?
You can buy a single bottle of thieves household cleaner at retail cost here, but the better value is to grab the thieves home loyalty bundle. This bundle is specially curated to include all of the cleaning favorites in one bundle at a deep discount that also unlocks wholesale pricing. We love this bundle because it comes with everything you need to replace so many of your conventional products with clean alternatives, and since they are ultra concentrated, they will last a long time too!
The thieves home loyalty bundle comes with a spray bottle to start making your all-purpose cleaner right away, but here are some of my other cleaning favorites.
Here is a cheat sheet to using your thieves cleaner concentrate, and you will be surprised how many more uses you find for this one cleaner concentrate too.
I created a month long deep cleaning checklist to make spring cleaning a bit less overwhelming- download it here, and do it with me!
